Chicago’s slide reached eight as the Oakland Athletics used a four-run inning and thirteen hits to defeat Chicago’s Mark Buehrle (12-12), 7-2 Tuesday.

With runners on the corner in the bottom of the fourth, Cliff Pennington hit a RBI double and moved to third on a fielding error. Pennington was then called out at home as Rajai Davis hit into a fielder’s choice. Then, Barton singled in Davis to make it 5-0.

Trevor Cahill (17-7) earned his team-leading seventeenth win as he pitched eight innings.

Kurt Suzuki made it 1-0 in the bottom of the first with a groundout to bring in Daric Barton.

Suzuki found gold again in the bottom of the third when he doubled in Barton this time to double the A’s lead, 2-0.

The White Sox scored in the fifth inning when Alexei Ramirez hit a leadoff double. He then moved over on consecutive groundouts to give Chicago their first run.

Oakland averted a crisis when in the top of the sixth with runners on the corner and no out, Manny Ramirez hit into a double play to score Juan Pierre. The White Sox got two more singles afterwards, but Alexei Ramirez struck out to end the inning.

The A’s extended their lead in the eighth when Davis singled in Gabe Gross and scored on a throwing error.

Chicago had runners on second and third with one out in the top of the ninth. Andruw Jones then loaded the bases as a pinch-hitter. However, Henry Rodriguez eliminated the threat, getting Brent Morel to strike out and Paul Konerko, the second pinch-hitter of the night, to ground out.

Game notes: This year, A’s pitcher Ben Sheets received the honor of the Jim “Catfish” Hunter award, which recognizes inspiration, competitiveness and courage. Fellow pitcher Craig Breslow will receive the Dave Stewart award for charitable contributions, before Oakland goes for the sweep in the final game of this series Wednesday at 12:35pm.
