Grant Green, Oakland’s top selection in the 2009 free agent draft, was promoted from Double-A Midland to Triple-A Sacramento for the Pacific Coast League playoffs Wednesday and responded with a 2-for-4 performance in the River Cats’ loss to Reno.
Green, who played college ball at Southern California, was moved from shortstop to center field earlier this season and represented the Athletics in the Futures Game during the All-Star Game festivities in Phoenix. He could figure in the A’s plans for 2012, depending on how Oakland approaches the free agent market.
Meanwhile, Andrew Carignan, who has battled elbow and oblique problems the better part of the last two seasons, returned to the A’s when the rosters expanded. So far, Carignan has thrown three scoreless innings.
The Athletics make one of their shortest road trips of the season this weekend, traveling to Arlington for a three-game set with the Texas Rangers. Then the A’s return home for three games with the Angels and four against Detroit. Oakland finishes its final home stand of the season Sept. 20-22 against the Rangers.
