The Oakland A’s had their seven-game winning streak snapped by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 2-1, at Angel Stadium Wednesday night.

The Angels broke a five-game losing streak of their own and pulled within one game of the A’s in the contest for the American League West Championship. John Lackey pitched an outstanding game for the Angels.

Lackey went seven innings, giving up just three hits before turning the ball and ultimately the game to the vaunted Angels bullpen.

Lackey struck out seven and walked four in notching his 11th win of the season. Two of the three hits that Lackey gave up were infield hits. Marco Scutaro’s grounder went off of Lackey’s ankle and Scott Hatteberg’s smash went off his glove.

Unfortunately there had to be a loser in this game, and that fell on the shoulders of rookie Joe Blanton.

With the loss, Blanton’s record falls to 8-10. Despite losing, Blanton pitched his second complete game of the season, allowing just six hits and striking out a career high 10 in the process.

The A’s finally got on the board in the top of the eighth inning, when Hatteberg singled home Eric Chavez. The A’s had a chance to take the lead and maybe the game, but Nick Swisher flied out to deep left field to end the threat and the inning.

Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez retired the A’s in the ninth to pick up his 31st save of the season in 36 chances.

NOTES: Before the game, the A’s placed Bobby Crosby on the disabled list for the second time this season.

Crosby suffered a broken left ankle in the collision with catcher Sal Fasano in Baltimore on Monday.

The A’s look to end their long road trip with a win, as they will send lefty Joe Kennedy to the mound. The Angels counter with young Erwin Santana.
