OAKLAND-With the opening of Citi Field, the new home of the New York Mets and Yankee Stadium, the new home of the New York Yankees, the home of the Oakland A’s is now the fifth oldest in the major leagues.
As fate would have it, the home of the Yankees’ archrivals, Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox opened in April of 1912, the same day as the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank.
Next line is the “Friendly Confines,” of Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs opened in April of 1916.
The next two are in the Los Angeles area, Dodger Stadium, the home of the Los Angeles Dodgers opened on April 10, 1962 against the Cincinnati Reds, a game that the visitors won by the final score of 6-3.
Four years later on April 18, 1966, Anaheim Stadium opened for the then California Angels against the Chicago White Sox.
Nearly two years later to the day, Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum opened for the newly christened Oakland A’s.
