Dallas Braden had not been able to buy a victory since pitching a perfect game in May. On Sunday everything changed for Braden as he picked up his fifth win of the season in a 6-4 victory over the first-place Chicago White Sox.

Braden left the game after 6.1 innings and turned it over to the bullpen. Three runs and three pitchers later the relief corps shutdown the Sox, and the A’s had to hang on to win the game.

Michael Wuertz came on in the top of the ninth and set the side down in order for the save. It was Wuertz’s third save of the season.

Kurt Suzuki was the big star on offense for the A’s. Suzuki’s three-RBI day laid the foundation for the A’s win.

The A’s have now won four of their last six games. They are now 16-8 since June 25th.

The Sunday win lifted the A’s two games above the .500 mark (50-48). The last time the A’s were two games above .500 was on June 10th.

The win also gave the A’s the series win 2-1. The A’s finished the homestand versus Boston and Chicago 4-2.

Speed has been the A’s best friend. They are now 78-98 (79.4%) in the stolen base department.

The A’s are still lacking in the power department. Their 66 home runs are the third lowest total in the American League.

The A’s now head out on a tough six-game road trip versus first-place opponents. On Tuesday, they begin a three-game series with the Texas Rangers. Following the Rangers, the A’s will have a three-game rematch with the Chicago White Sox.

The A’s first homestand of August will feature three games with Kansas City and three with Texas.

The A’s pitching staff took another hit as Ben Sheets was put on the Disabled List. That move marks the 19th time the A’s have used the DL this season.
