The Oakland A’s scored 15 runs in their defeat of the Angels on Saturday night. Often a team will come out the next day after scoring double digit runs and be unable to score. That did not happen to A’s on Sunday.

Despite facing one of the better pitcher’s in the American League in Jared Weaver (8-4, 2.97), the A’s came ready to play ball and score.

The A’s drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning. With two out and Ryan Sweeney at second, Kurt Suzuki lined a double to left field that allowed Sweeney to score and gave the A’s a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the A’s added to their lead. Kurt Suzuki led off the inning with a walk. Jack Cust then stepped in and hit the ball over the center field fence for a two-run home run to make it a 3-0 game.

The Angels finally scored in the top of the fifth inning. Kevin Frandsen reached second on a two-base throwing error charged to SS Cliff Pennington. Jeff Mathis singled up the middle allowing Frandsen to score making it a 3-1 game.

In the bottom of the sixth, the A’s scored again. With one out, Kurt Suzuki singled to right field. Cust singled to right and moved Suzuki up to third base. Cust then moved up to second on a stolen base. Kouzmanoff hit the ball to the second baseman who chose to throw home and put out Suzuki. Cust moved up to third on the play. With Adam Rosales at the plate, Kouzmanoff advanced to second on a Weaver wild pitch. Rosales took advantage of having runners at second and third by hitting a line drive to left that was good for two RBI. That made the score A’s 5 Angels 1.

The Angels were not done trying to get back into the game. In the top of the eighth inning, Bobby Abreu led off with a home run to center field to make it a 5-2 game, but it would be the last run for the Angels.

The final score was the Athletics 5 and the Angels 2.

All-Star Jared Weaver took the loss for the Angels. Weaver went six innings giving up seven hits and five runs (all earned). Weaver walked one and struck out seven. The loss dropped Weaver’s record to 8-5.

Oakland All-Star Trevor Cahill posted the win on Sunday. Cahill went seven innings giving up five hits and one run. He walked two and struck out three. The win raised Cahill’s record to 9-3.

All-Star Andrew Bailey picked up his 18th save of the year closing the game out for the Athletics. Bailey found out during the game that he had been named an All-Star.
