The A’s welcome the East Division leading New York Yankees into Oakland tonight.
The A’s enter the game just one game below the .500 mark. The Yanks, on the other hand lead the major leagues with 50 wins so far this season.
The last time the Yankees were here, fans got to see a triple play as well as Dallas Braden berating Alex Rodriguez for violating an unwritten rule of baseball. That rule states that a player must not run across the pitcher’s mound on the way back to the dugout.
No one knows what will happen tonight at the game but the Coliseum will be packed with a ton of Yankee fans. These fans know that the Yankees are, perhaps, the greatest franchise in all of professional sports. Other franchises such as the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers in basketball have dominated their sport. The same goes for the Montreal Canadiens in hockey. However, no team has the record of the New York Yankees. They have won, since 1920, 40 American League pennants and 27 World Series. Just an amazing record. How have they done it? Their record of success began in 1920 when they acquired Babe Ruth from the Boston Red sox. They have been great ever since. Not everyone loves the Yankees. Just ask Red sox fans.
The Yankees start out every season with one goal. That goal is to win the World Series. If they don’t win it all, they view the season as a failure. One does not have to like the Yankees but one has look at what they have done over the years and just stand back and tip your hat to them for what they have accomplished.
