Trevor Cahill added to his already strong case for selection to the American League All-Star team Thursday by winning his seventh straight victory, an 8-1 decision by Oakland over the Orioles at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
Cahill (8-2) scattered four hits over his seven innings of work, along with one run, four strikeouts, and one walk. Cahill has a 2.12 earned run average over his last nine starts.
Offensively, Ryan Sweeney and Cliff Pennington each collected four hits for the Athletics. Sweeney, Pennington and Jack Cust each drove in four runs, as Oakland took two out of three games in Baltimore.
The A’s batted around in the eighth, sending 10 batters to the plate against Baltimore relievers Frank Mata and Matt Albers. Sweeney, Mark Ellis and Gabe Gross had RBI singles and Cust hit a run-scoring double in the rally.
Oakland moves on to a weekend series in Cleveland against the Indians.
