The Athletics continued their series at Baltimore, this time coming up short, 9-6. Though leading in the seventh, Oakland saw its bullpen give up homers to Ty Wigginton and Luke Scott. Both homers were hit to left, the former off Brad Ziegler (BS #3, 0.1 p, 1 h, 2 er, 1 w, 1 k, 1 hr) and the latter off Cedrick Bowers (0-1, 0.2 ip, 1 h, 1 er, 1 w, 1 k, 1 hr). These were not the only round-trippers for the O’s, who took a 3-0 lead in the second on a two-run shot by Adam Jones. Former Athletic Miguel Tejada’s two-run blast in the eighth widened the gap. The A’s managed to go ahead with six runs in the fourth, but Baltimore prevailed in the end.

Neither Oakland starter Ben Sheets nor Baltimore starter Kevin Millwood got a decision. The winner was reliever Matt Albers (1 ip, 1 w, now 3-3) and the save went to Alfredo Simon (#10).

The two teams meet again at 4:05 p.m. PDT on Thursday, July 1, with RHPs Jake Arrieta (2-1, 6.20) and Trevor Cahill (7-2, 2.49) facing off.
