A’s sweep Bay Bridge series

Game 3 of the Bay Bridge series features Jonathan Sanchez pitching for the Giants. Sanchez comes in sporting a 2 win 3 loss record with an Earned run average of 3.06. The A’s send Ben Sheets to the mound. Sheets have a similar won-loss record of 2 wins and 3 losses and his ERA is 5.66.
Sheets and Sanchez are involved in a classic pitcher’s duel through the first 3 innings. Each side is scoreless and each team hast just 1 hit each.
Top of the 4th, Andres Torres drew a walk, and then stole second. Sheets got Freddy Sanchez to strikeout swinging for the 1st out of the inning. Pablo Sandoval lined out to Ryan Sweeney and Torres took third. Aubrey Huff drew a walk to put runners at 1st and 3rd with 2 out. Juan Uribe hit a line shot to right field but Mark Ellis made a leaping catch to end the threat.
Through six innings still no score. Sanchez has allowed just 1 hit and the Giants have 2 hits. Michael Wuertz relieved Ben Sheets to start the 7th.
Manager Bob Geren was tossed out of the game as he argued that Juan Uribe appeared to strike out on a foul tip. Home plate Umpire Brian Knight called it a foul ball that hit the dirt before catcher Kurt Suzuki caught it. Uribe then struck out swinging.
The A’s scored the 1st run of the game in the bottom of the 7th as Adam Rosales singled, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mar Ellis and then scores as Jake Fox hit a line shout to left for a double to drive in his 9th run of the season.
Jonathan Sanchez pitched a terrific but left in the bottom of the 8th as he walked Rajai Davis to start the inning. Sanchez threw 111 pitches through 7 1/3rd innings allowing just 3 hits and 2 runs. Jeremy Affeldt relieved Sanchez. Daric Barton then laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved Rajai Davis to 2nd base, Kurt Suzuki singled sharply to center to score Davis. A’s lead 2-0 Kevin Kouzmanoff then followed with a single moving Suzuki to 3rd. Affeldt left the game with an injury and was replaced by Dan Runzler.The A’s scored the 2nd run of the inning on a single to left by Ryan Sweeney. Former A’s reliever Santiago Casilla came in and got Mark Ellis to strike out swing for the 2nd out of the inning. Gabe Gross struck out swinging with the bases loaded. A’s lead 3-0 after 8 innings.
A’s closer, Andrew Bailey came in to pitch the 9th. Bailey put the Giants down 1-2-3. The A’s shut the Giants out for the second straight day and sweep the series 3 games to none.
Bailey earned his 8th save of the season.
