Detroit beats the A’s, sweeps the two game series

On a cool but beautiful day, the A’s sent Tyson Ross out to face the Detroit Tigers. This will be the 2nd start of the year for Ross. Jeremy Bonderman is the starting pitcher for the Tigers. The Tigers came into the game with a record of 23-17.
The first 2 innings were scoreless, but, in the top of the 3rd inning, after 1 out, Austin Jackson singled then moved to 3rd as Johnny Damon doubled down the right field line. Magglio Ordonez then singled driving in Jackson and Damon to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
The A’s scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the 3rd as Bonderman walked 3 to load the bases and then hit Kurt Suzuki with a pitch to force in a run. Bonderman got Jack Cust to fly out to right to end the inning.
The Tigers increased their lead to 3-1 as catcher Alex Avila singled then stole second base. Ramon Santiago singled to drive Avila home with the run. Manager Bob Geren took. Tyson Ross out of the game to start the 5th inning. Ross pitched 4 innings and gave up 3 runs and 7 hits. Vin Mazzaro came in to pitch. Mazzaro gave up a single to Ordonez then Miguel Cabrera hit his 9th home run of the season to increase the lead to 5-1 in the top of the 5th.
Jeremy Bonderman’s day was done after 6 full innings Bonderman gave up 1 run and allowed just 3 hits. The A’s then scored a run when Coke gave up a double to Cliff Pennington. Daric Barton singled to drive in Pennington with the A’s second run. Coke then got Sweeney to foul out and Kurt Suzuki struck out to end the inning. Detroit leads 5-2.
The A’s mounted a threat in the bottom of the 9th as Eric Patterson singled. Daric Barton walked to put men at first and second. Ryan Sweeney then grounded out to end the game
The A’s continue to struggle at the plate. Tiger pitching limited the A’s to just 5 hits today. The A’s record falls to 20 wins against 22 losses.
Final score Detroit 5 – Oakland 2.
