Oakland outdid the Seattle Mariners with eleven of their fifteen hits in the first three innings, as they erased a five-game losing streak in their return to Oakland Coliseum with an 8-4 victory.

The Mariners' Ryan Rowland-Smith (0-4) remained winless as he gave up all but one of the A's runs and ten of their fifteen hits in just 2.2 innings. It was his shortest stint and most runs he has given up ever as Seattle continued a three-game losing streak. Oakland's Gio Gonzalez pitched seven innings for the win as he broke his two-game losing streak.

In the top of the first with two outs, Seattle's Franklin Gutierrez walked and moved to third on Kurt Suzuki's error. Jose Lopez then singled in Gutierrez in to make it 1-0.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, Oakland's Kevin Kouzmanoff homered to bring himself and Daric Barton in, who had doubled, giving the team a 2-1 lead.

The A's struck even better in the bottom of the second. Rajai Davis doubled with the team's third consecutive hit of the inning, bringing in Jack Cust and Adam Rosales. Cliff Pennington then bunted himself on base and Barton brought Davis in with a sac fly, for a 5-1 score at the end of the inning.

Oakland received another two out, two run homer in the bottom of the third, this one by Rosales, which also scored Cust to make it 7-1. Rowland-Smith was subsequently replaced by fellow starter Ian Snell. Snell also pitched 2.2 innings.

The Mariners made it 7-2 with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth from Matt Tuiasosopo.

The teams had another jointly productive inning in the sixth, when in the top, Lopez singled in Chone Figgins after two consecutive walks, and in the bottom, Suzuki singled in Barton, who had tripled.

The final run of the game went to Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki, when Lopez ground out to Brad Ziegler.

Game notes: Oakland is currently celebrating Stockton native Dallas Braden's perfect Mother's Day game with a week-long celebration. On Sunday, Suzuki and pitcher Justin Duchscherer switched spots on the disabled list. Duchscherer, who had just been reinstated the same day, went back to the DL with left hip inflammation again. Also, pitcher Chad Gaudin and catcher Josh Donaldson were designated for Sacramento and pitchers Cedrick Bowers and Henry Rodriguez joined the team. Both teams play again Tuesday at 7:05pm and then the A's host the Detroit Tigers and the Giants during this current homestand.
