Cleveland had to work overtime to do it, but the Indians returned to their winning ways Thursday with a 12-inning 4-3 victory over the Athletics in Oakland.

Jack Hannahan and Lou Marson each hit RBI singles in the top of the 12th inning, giving the Indians their seventh win of the season coming in the final at-bat. Cleveland is off to a 21-9 start, the seventh time the Indians have done that since 1948 – the last year the Tribe won the World Series.

In the Cleveland 12th, Hannahan’s bloop single off A’s reliever Craig Breslow (0-2) drove in with the go-ahead run.

Chad Durbin pitched the 10th and 11th innings to get the win, while Chris Perez earned his ninth save.

Ryan Sweeney enjoyed a big day for the A’s, collecting five hits and driving in two runs. But Oakland also stranded 12 runners.

Sweeney’s RBI single in the 12th pulled the A’s to within a run, but Perez got pinch-hitter Hideki Matsui to fly out to left, ending the game.

Athletics starter Brett Anderson went nine innings and wound up with a no-decision.
