The A’s continued their homestand by hosting the Cleveland Indians for the first of three games, throwing Justin Duchscherer (1-0, 2.41 ERA) against fellow RHP Jake Westbrook (0-1, 5.40 ERA). The final score of 10-0 in Oakland’s favor resembled a football game with a converted touchdown and a field goal.

The game was fast (2:36) for a ten-run avalanche, due in no small part to the Athletics turning five double plays. The scoring began with an RBI from Kevin Kouzmanoff in the fourth frame, ending his 5-for-33 dry spell at the plate. The bulk of the onslaught was led by Kurt Suzuki, who had three hits including a home run, his fourth of the year and his second in two days, which drove in three runs in the sixth. It came in the sixth inning over the wall in left. The game was like an extended batting practice session, in which Rajai Davis, Eric Chavez, Adam Rosales and Chad Pennington each scored a run; Ryan Sweeney and Daric Barton each had two.

Duchscherer gets the win, and is now 2-0 (6 ip, 5 h, 4 w, 2 k); Westbrook took the loss (now 0-2; 5 ip, 8 h, 4 er, 1 w, 1 k, 1 hr).

The two teams meet again on Saturday, April 24 at 1:5 p.m. Probable starters are LHP Brett Anderson (1-1, 2.65 ERA) for the A’s and RHP Fausto Carmona (2-0, 3.60 ERA) for Cleveland.

The A’s have recalled left-handed pitcher Brad Kilby from Triple-A Sacramento and optioned catcher Landon Powell to Sacramento, the club announced today.

Kilby had no decisions and a 1.69 ERA in five relief appearances with Sacramento. He held the opposition to a .200 batting average and struck out seven batters in 5.1 innings. The 27-year old left-hander was 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 10 spring training appearances with the A’s before he was optioned to Sacramento April 3, the final day of the spring. Kilby made his Major League debut with the A’s last September, going 1-0 with a 0.53 ERA in 11 games, one start. He was also 4-2 with two saves and a 2.13 ERA in 45 relief appearances at Sacramento.

Powell was recalled from Sacramento Wednesday when Mark Ellis was placed on the disabled list but he did not appear in a game with Oakland.
