The Big Boppers, the New York Yankees, arrived in Oakland today to start a 3 game series with the A’s. The Yanks are known for their plate discipline and take as many pitches as they can. They will wear pitchers out. Just throw throw strikes, guys. Tonight, the Yanks received 10 walks and 5 of the runners came into score. You cannot give the Yanks an inch, as they will take a mile with their potent lineup. The Bombers scored 7 runs on just 5 hits but the A’s pitchers did not help their cause by giving up 10 free passes. It was a long ugly night as it took 3 hours and 21 minutes to play nine innings on a cold and windy night at the coliseum.
After the game, Yankees manager, Joe Girardi said that the Yankees game plan is to wear the pitchers out. The Yanks do not give up easy outs.
After the game, A’s manager, Bob Geren, said “ we out hit them and out homered them but walks told the whole story.”
The A’s actually out hit the Yanks 8 to 5 but, again, the walks killed them.. Travis Buck hit a solo home run and Kurt Suzuki hit a 2 run blast. Future Hall of Famer Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez hit a blast to left field that accounted for 3 runs.
One another note, home plate umpire ,Ed Rapuano had to leave the game as a result of a foul ball hitting his face mask. Rapuano was visibly shaken but tried to continue.
Shortly after, play was stopped and Rapuano left the game. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital for a CT scan. Let’s hope everything is okay.
