The name of the game is pitching. You have to have it win. The starting rotation for the A’s right is excellent. Ben Sheets, Dallas Braden, Gio Gonzalez, Brett Anderson and Justin Duchscherer have been outstanding. However, in baseball today, you have to have a strong bullpen in addition to good starting pitching and the A’s middle relievers and closer have been doing their jobs as well.
Tonight it was Dallas Braden’s turn to shine. Braden pitched 7 strong innings. He started the game by retiring the first 10 batters that he faced. After the game Braden said that he felt comfortable and was throwing first pitch strikes and was ahead in the count to the batters. He also felt that he matched up well against Baltimore. He kept the ball down and hit his spots. The defense played well behind him as well. He left the game throwing just 92 pitches and allowed 3 hits. His one mistake was giving up a home run to Ty Wigginton
The A’s starters rank 2nd in the Major Leagues with an ERA under 2 and the ERA for the entire staff is 2.77 which places them 2nd in the American League in that category.
The A’s won the game 4-2 and are now in 1st place in the American League West with an 8-4 record. The 8 wins tie them with the Minnesota twins for most wins in the American League.
