The Oakland Athletics won 2-1 in a pitching duel with the Seattle Mariners Tuesday.
Oakland's Dallas Braden was exceptional, going 7 innings while striking out a career-high 10 and giving up 4 hits, 1 run and 1 walk. Seattle starter Ian Snell didn't fall too far behind. He went 6 innings, striking out 4 and giving up 3 hits, 1 run and 2 walks. Both gave up a run in the fourth inning.
In the top of the fourth, the Mariners' Milton Bradley fouled out for the second out, Franklin Gutierrez moved to third on a balk and scored on a wild pitch.
Oakland's Kurt Suzuki provided a 1-out home run in the bottom of the inning.
In the bottom of the tenth, after reaching second base, the A's Kevin Kouzmanoff was replaced by Eric Patterson. Patterson scored on a 2-out single, one batter later, on a single by Mark Ellis. It was Ellis's second straight single after singling in the ninth.
Edwar Ramirez received his first win since fall of 2008 and Kanekoa Texeira received the loss. Texeira though got out of a jam in the ninth inning as he loaded the bases with one out. However, he then got Rajai Davis to strike out and Daric Barton to fly out.
Game notes: The Mariners' Ichiro Suzuki was picked off in the first inning. Suzuki has hit for 22 straight games against Oakland. Ellis had 3 hits. The third game of this four-game set continues Wednesday at 7:05pm.
