OAKLAND--The Oakland A's farmed out spring sensation Carlos Gonzalez after the young 22 year old outfielder hit .360 in 12 games in Catus League action this spring. Gonzalez however suffered a hamstring pull just before the trip to Japan and had to stay back while the club made the trip.

Gonzalez went 0-3 on Friday and Saturday and that was enough for A's General Manager Billy Beane by Saturday he was convinced that Gonzalez had to go down even if he had gone 6-6 against the Giants, "It would have been nice to take him to Japan, we need him to get some at bats, and he needs to play everyday. He's had (42) career at bats at Triple A, so that was the thinking going into this spring anyway, it might have been a tougher decision if he had more playing time in Triple A." said Beane.

Gonzalez was acquired in the Dan Haren deal from Arizona will be joined by A's pitcher Dallas Braden and Jeff Fiorentino as they head out to Sacramento and the A's trim the big club roster down to 28 with the rest of the cuts coming on Sunday before the A's open the season against the Red Sox in Oakland on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile the A's are looking at platooning Ryan Sweeney for center field with Chris Denorfia who will face left handed pitching. Sweeney a left handed hitter will face right hand pitching. Daric Barton the A's rookie first baseman will be back after suffering soreness in his left wrist. Barton is expected to be in the opening day line up Tuesday night against Boston and will not play in Sunday's exhibition game against San Francisco at Pac Bell Park.
