OAKLAND-Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, things looked to be going just fine for Matt Palmer and the San Francisco Giants.

Unfortunately for Giants fans, it was in that third inning that things began to unravel for the rookie out of Southwest Missouri State.

Emil Brown hit a two-run home run off of Palmer, as the Oakland A’s defeated the Giants 6-2 before 14,011 at McAfee Coliseum.

The Giants got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, as Eugenio Valdez scored on a double to right field by Randy Winn.

Things unraveled completely for the Giants in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Mark Ellis singled to lead off the inning, Jack Cust walked and that is things got really strange for the men wearing the orange and black.

With Mike Sweeney at the plate, Sweeney hit a lazy flyball down the right-field line; however the ball hit off of Fred Lewis’ glove and to the ground for an error.

Luckily for the Giants the ball landed in foul territory; however that was not the end of the bizarreness in the sixth inning.

Sweeney then flew out to Dave Roberts for the first out of the inning, and Brown flew out to Lewis in right field; however that play came with a little bit controversy.

Bruce Bochy came out and talked to first base umpire Bill Miller, who said Lewis trapped the ball, but after a conversation the rest of the umpires, Brown was called out

In what looked like something out of the Bad News Bears movies, Jose Castillo and Brian Bocock collided on a flyball that fell to the ground for the second error of the inning.

Palmer went five innings, giving up just two hits on two runs; however he was tagged with the loss that came on the heels of some shotty defense by the Giants.

On the other side of things, Justin Duchscherer went six innings, giving up one run on three hits, while walking just one and striking out two.
