OAKLAND--With the signing of Justin Duchscherer the A's have added a little more experience to the ball club and he's been to the All-Star game and he's going to be number one in the rotation and it's good news for the A's. It is known within the organization they don't have the payroll and the A's have some good talent for the future.
Duchscherer went through surgery and mentally he's in good shape and hopefully he will return to spring training in a few months in Arizona in good shape.
Mark DeRosa 3B: As of right now Mark DeRosa will start at third base for the Giants and Pablo Sandoval will move to first base unless the Giants sign a guy like Adrian Beltre or another third baseman. Beltre only plays third, so unless they sign Beltre, DeRosa will be their starting third baseman, where DeRosa is going to hit that is still a question.
DeRosa hit 23 homers and had 78 RBIs and hit .250 which is not great but he's a good player. A blue collar player. He's not a cleanup hitter and he's not a super star. He's the first who'll tell you when he played with the Cardinals. He's a very down to earth guy and the Giants are going to be happy with him. He gives the Giants a tremendous versatility in the infield and in the outfield. He doesn't complain he plays five different positions he's a perfect player for that team.
Raiders longest running soap opera: The Raiders who knows what’s going to happen with them. JaMarcus Russell was in and now he's out and Brad Gradkowski is out the Raiders have three quarterbacks, the Raiders are a sad state of affairs right now.
I respect Mr. Davis nothing personal but the best thing that can happen to that franchise is for owner Al Davis to sell it to somebody else. Let somebody start from scratch. They don't even have a marketing department, they don't have a General Manager, it's a real disaster.
The good news is the Raiders have to play one more game.
49ers improved this year: The 49ers had a shot this year and are 7-8 going into their final game this season on Sunday in Arizona. They're going to play a very weak team this week. They could end up 8-8 which is not bad but they need just three or four more weeks of good football in that division and Alex Smith came back and did a very good job.
The 49ers are a much better team and a positive story obviously more than the Raiders. Well, everybody has a positive story more than the Raiders. The 49ers they do have a future. They do have a presence with Singletary as a head coach. The 49ers are heading in the right direction they're going to have to make a few adjustments.
Sharks hottest fish on ice: The Sharks are headed for another Presidents Cup the way their going after losing five straight the Sharks have straightened up and have now won six straight and their putting all the pieces together they're a terrific team and it's a very fun team to watch.
I look forward to the Sharks to have a great second half. Were coming close to the Olympics which will be Vancouver B.C. it’s going to be a recess of a couple of weeks and the NHL is red hot and the Sharks are right there in the mix.
One of the best teams in the NHL and Sharks fans should be proud of this team and barring any serious injuries they're going to go all the way this year.
NHL Winter Classic may get rained out: Friday the Boston Bruins are scheduled to host the Winter Classic against the Philadelphia Flyers at Fenway Park in the game's annual outdoor hockey match but weather forecasters originally were calling for rain at a 70-80% chance. But those odds were lowered on Wednesday however the NHL has said they would reschedule the game if it looks like there is a chance of rain.
The league said if snow was in the forecast then that would be a good thing but rain; no one wants to sit through that. It's bad enough if it rains during baseball but for ice hockey it would be just as bad. 37,000 plus seats have been sold for the event which is a sell out for a 1PM face off on Friday.
If the rains come the game would be moved to the next day Saturday January 2. The rain is schedule to come at 1PM and rain until 4PM according to accu-weather forecasters.
Talking about the fans in Boston those are real diehard fans for hockey who are going to be frozen and Fenway is a beautiful place but I don't know of anyone who can hit the Green Monster with a puck.
The first thing for anybody's been to Fenway and I remember the first time I went to Fenway it was 1986 for the World Series between the Mets and Red Sox. I remember walking in there and I saw that wall right there and I thought I could hit that.
You think anybody could hit that but it's going to be tough to hit a puck over the Monster. It's good thing they don't have that as part of the rules of the game. It's going to be fun for the people in Boston. It's like the television station in the Bay Area says "Fun for you and fun for everybody".
