Braden would like A's to just get rid of T-Shirts

OAKLAND--In the series with the A's and Yankees it was about Money Ball against Money Bags. The Yankees have bags of money. This might be one of the best infields in history with Alex Rodriguez at third, Derek Jeter at shortstop, Robinson Cano at second, Mark Teixeira at first, Jorge Posada at catcher and you have many on that team which is loaded.

The A's had a hard time in that series in Oakland. Like I mentioned in my broadcast that the Yankees are on the way to 100 wins and not only did the Yankees beat the A's in this past series they've beaten everybody. The Yanks have beaten people on the road, they've beat people at home they're a terrific team and they'll be in the World Series again and they could win it again.

On the other subject concerning Dallas Braden concerning the T-shirts for sale saying "Get off my mound" it was a matter of a lack of communications between Braden and the A's front office. Braden is a little frustrated too he hasn't been able to win a game since he threw his perfecto on Mother's day.

So there's a lot of blame to go around and the A's have a lack of communication issues in this situation and the media in New York is still writing about the incident when Alex Rodriquez walked over the mound when Braden was pitching the last time the Yankees came out.

I talked to Braden about this and he said this was ridiculous this happened so long ago he said his 15 minutes of fame are over and he's a smart guy. He may not be the best pitcher in the world but he has a perfect game on his resume and he's a very smart man and especially the way he's gone about handling this matter.

He told me that he's not talking anymore about that incident and the media in New York as we all know is a special media they like to stir things up, they were hoping that Braden would be well enough to pitch but he's still on the D.L. for this series with tendinitis on his elbow.

There is hope that Braden will face New York again and some tabloids in New York are looking for the rematch between Braden and A-Rod like it was Mike Tyson against somebody. It's ridiculous but that's what the media does in New York they blow everything out of proportion.

FIFA World Cup: After the United States was eliminated the audience in the United States went down dramatically. There's still million of people watching the World Cup from around the world but it would have been much better if the U.S. was in the final four.

The U.S. tried and did their best and I have seen American soccer improve to great lengths. I was one of the few reporters in the Bay Area to have the priviledge of having interviewed Pele' twice when he came to Kezar Stadium in the 70s as a player with the New York Cosmos and then when I was working as a sports anchor and sports director at Telemundo in San Jose.

When I covered the World Cup the U.S. in 1994 the only time the World Cup was in the United States I interviewed Pele' and he said that soccer was going to grow. It hasn't grown the way the U.S. expected it but soccer has grown in the way that more kids have played soccer more than they have baseball.

The problem is that the Major League Soccer is not major league. The greatest players in the world are playing in Europe and their playing in Latin America they do not play in the United States. That is the biggest problem it's a financial thing and it's trying to develop American talent.

Having said that just winning the World Cup this year a team like a Brazil or Germany could have been an odds on favorite, Germany being the strongest team. However Spain won on a double header by Carles Puyol for Spain's only goal in a 1-0 victory to help Spain finally get to the Cup Finals to face the Dutch on Wednesday.

Spain is one of the greatest soccer teams in the world and Germany who lost is one of the most strongest teams who had a lot of resources and great players. The Netherland's are ready and it's going to be an all European final. Unfortunately no team from Latin America from North or South America made it to the finals.

I think that's a disappointment.
