PHOENIX--The A's are looking good in their spring training home in Phoenix and likewise for the Giants in their spring camp in Scottsdale. It's early in spring training and I will be attending the game this Saturday when the A's and the Giants play each other it'll be the first time this season.
Giants infielder Pablo Sandoval is in rare form he's hitting doubles, triples, home runs, he looked liked he never missed a step and he's a little heavier and I'll talk to him later. The A's are having a good story with pitchers Gio Gonzalez and Brett Anderson both can pitch the change up.
Gonzalez told me his change up is the key for him and he thinks it's going to happen during the regular season. He's probably got the best stuff of the A's staff. That's what Curt Young the A's pitching coach told a group of reporters.
Gonzalez said he's got a lot on his fast ball a lot of movement throwing at 94 MPH. His curve ball is one of the best pitches. In the off season in Florida, Gonzalez learned the change up. So we'll see what happens but with the A's everybody seems to be healthy except Justin Duchscherer who is still having problems with his back.
Did the Giants get damaged goods from the Pirates?: From the looks of things although he's swinging off the tee did Freddy Sanchez come to the San Francisco Giants as damaged goods? It looks like that and all we can know is that Sanchez is struggling and this guy hasn't been able to play two weeks in a row maybe a week in a row in five or six games.
The Giants paid out a lot of money to have him sign for two years and he's a former batting champion in the National League with the Pirates. He looked like he was damaged goods coming from Pittsburgh.
The Pirates looked like they pulled a fast one on Giants General Manager Brian Sabean and I hate to say it but I agree with broadcaster Ken Gimblin and how else can you analyze this of course he's going to say "no he's in good shape blah blah" but it looks more and more that Sanchez was damaged goods and the Giants obviously took the bait and they signed him and that happens.
General Managers they're survivors and they like each other but sometimes they might know something you don't and they would tell you half a lie and say "this guy is in good shape" and "they're in great shape" in legal jargon but to definitely to answer the question, it looks like the Pirates pulled a fast one on the Giants and unloaded a guy who was damaged goods Freddy Sanchez on the Giants.
The Burriss injury: Emmanuel Burriss isn't going to be playing for awhile and of course Edgar Renteria is in good shape and they traded for him and he was in good shape but now it looks like Sanchez will be out and he won't start the season.
Burriss is one of those guys who can play a couple of positions in the infield. The Giants do have more depth, more versatility because they got Mark DeRosa who can play third base and could be the starting left fielder.
Burriss is one of those guys who shows a lot of promise when he was healthy and we'll see but he doesn't look like he's going to play anytime in the near future.
A-Rod says all’s well with Canadian doctor: Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez says he not commenting yet on Dr.Anthony Galea regarding HGH or any dispensing of performance enhancers. As far as the Feds investigating the case Carlos Beltran and Carlos Reyes of the New York Mets are also involved in the investigation and also golfer Tiger Woods was documented that Galea visited Woods in his home in Florida after having knee surgery.
It seems like the new strategy with these athletes when they get caught when to show day light on everything they do. They want to have transparency and they turn around and say "this is what I'm doing" that’s a good policy.
People already forgot A-Rod especially if he has another good year this year and he got a World Series ring for the first time from last year. Now you have a guy of that caliber who he knew he had got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and now he's trying to make good with the fans.
It's a good strategy and it would be nice if Tiger Woods would be telling the people what he's been doing with this doctor and be forthcoming and you might as well come out clean because these are idols for millions of people and what they have done in their respective sport and Tiger's was more of a transgression and infidelity which should have nothing to do with the actual playing of golf.
Tiger Woods is the most recognizable faces in the world and Alex Rodriguez is one of the top five players in the game of baseball right there with Albert Pujols. It's good that A-Rod is doing this and that he wants to come out clean and be transparent with the public, I like that.
