49ers Preview
San Francisco 49ers (6-7) at Philadelphia Eagles (9-4)
Dec. 20 10 a.m.
Radio KNBR-AM 680
TV – FOX 2
History Lesson: In week 6 of last season the Eagles Donovan McNabb threw for 280 yards and two TDs in a 40-26 whipping of the Niners. Philly has won four of its past five games with SF… Alas the 49ers still lead the all-time series by a dominating 17-10-1… Last week the 49ers had their best game of the season bulldozing the visiting Cards 24-9. Philly whipped out the Giants 45-38.
The Good Guys: The 49ers are looking to right their road blahs. Since their road win at Arizona in week 1, the Niners have lost five in a row on foreign turf… LB Patrick Willis leads the NFL with 132 tackles… SF needs to win their remaining three games and hope Arizona loses at least two in order to make the playoffs… With nearly 200 yards last week, it looks as if RB Frank Gore will gain 1,000 or more yards for the four straight seasons. He now has 835… WR Michael Crabtree leads the team with an average of 12.8 yards per catch… DB Shawtae Spencer was named by his teams as recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award.
The Bad Guys: Former Cal WR DeSean Jackson has emerged as the Eagles top offensive weapon. The multi-talented speedster is a scoring threat on offense and special teams. He has eight TDs this season from outside 50 yards and all 10 TDs have come from at least 35 yards out… LB Trent Cole has been a major problem for QBs all season with 9.5 sacks and two forced fumbles… QB Donovan McNabb has thrown for more than 2,700 yards with 18 TDs… Who’s the Eagles top rushing threat? It’s none other than RB LeSean McCoy who leads the team with 558 ground yards.
