History Lesson:

In Week 12 of the 2005 season, the late QB Steve McNair passed for 343 yards and three TDs in a 33-22 blitzing of the 49ers… SF however has won two of the previous matches and leads the all-time series 7-4… Last week the Titans earned their first win, ripping the Jags 30-13… The Niners were edged by Indianapolis 18-14.

The Good Guys:

QB Alex Smith will make his first home start in two seasons and coach Mike Singletary has indicated he will attempt to open up the offense a little more with the former No. 1 overall pick under center… RB Frank Gore had a 66 yard TD run vs. the Colts and now has three TDs of 60 or more yards on the campaign… DL Ray McDonald has a career high three sacks… TE Vernon Davis leads the NFL with seven TD catches… The Niners defense is ranked No. 2 in the NFL.

The Bad Guys:

QB Vince Young was 15-of-23 for 125 yards and a TD in his first start of the season last week… RB Chris Johnson has been the Titans lone bright light, rush for 835 yards. Like Gore he loves a long TD scamper, piling up four TDs of 50 or more yards this season… Though they have just one win in ‘09, the Titans have won their last five meetings with NFC clubs… WR Kenny Britt leads Tennessee with 20 catches, but is still looking for his first scoring play.
