SANTA CLARA--Last Sunday's four point loss was a tough one for the 49ers they looked good early but they just couldn't hold on and has been kind of the story of the season so far. The Niners were able to keep it close but when their playing a good team they just can't hold on and unfortunately it came out to be a 18-14 loss.

That's not to say the Niners didn't put forth a good effort they certainly kept themselves in this game, Frank Gore had that big 64 yard run for a touchdown early on, quarterback Alex Smith drove them down for a touchdown pass to Vernon Davis who still leads the league in touchdown receptions.

The defense could not quite keep it together to keep the Colts out of the end zone oddly enough they did a pretty good job containing Peyton Manning he did not have his usual Pro Bowl caliber game, well that may not be entirely true he was 31-48 with 347 yards passing but he didn't have any touchdowns passes.

Unfortunately for the 49ers the Colts running back Joseph Addai did have a touchdown pass on a pretty well executed running back pass on a half back pass option. Where Addai threw it down field to Reggie Wayne and the 49ers were fooled on the fake and that was that that made all the difference right there.

Not much you can do the 49ers had an opportunistic defense they bit down on the fake and there you go. The Niners are beyond the point where they're looking for morale victories. They've had a couple of those already this season coming out of that Minnesota game early this year where they lost on the last second hail Mary play by quarterback Brett Favre.

The 49ers felt pretty good about themselves they played really well from start to finish in that one except for that one crazy play in the end which had to be absolutely perfect the 49ers should have won that game. They don't feel that way any more because now they have lost three games in a row.

As well as they played against the Colts they still didn't come out on top in a game maybe you can argue that they should have won but they really don't care at this point they really want to get out of that losing streak.

So even if you keep Manning from throwing any touchdown passes you don't feel too good about yourself if you come out of that one with a loss because if your defense played well enough to keep Manning out of the end zone and he still can't win your going to feel frustrated that's where the 49ers are right now.

The Niners are frustrated because they didn't win this game and they're even more frustrated because cornerback Nate Clemens is injured and he's out for about six weeks with a busted shoulder. Joe Staley their starting left tackle he's out for at least a week with a busted up knee.

The Niners are going down every which way and it's going to make it that much more difficult for them to really stay in contention in this NFC West division namely with the Arizona Cardinals and you never know the Seahawks might make some noise.

With all these injuries the 49ers are really feeling it and it's frustrating enough to lose and then to lose three in a row and have a couple of your team players go down that's really tough. So we'll see how the 49ers bounce back on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
