SANTA CLARA--The 49ers have two weeks to fix whatever went wrong including this Sunday's bye week. Coming off the loss against the Atlanta Falcons where they lost 45-10 that was embarrassing not just for the result on the field but really how they played. They just looked kind of lost.
Atlanta is a very good team possibly even better than the Vikings a team that the 49ers had a good game against three weeks ago. Against a team like Atlanta you would hope that the 49ers would have been improved enough to make a respectable showing but they weren't respectable at all they were dreadful.
The 49ers showed there is a big gap between them and the top tier team the elite teams. So looking ahead the 49ers have this bye week and they have two weeks to get healthy to get rested to get their heads on straight to correct all the mistakes they were making in that game against Atlanta.
They have to work at getting their attitude back in the area where head coach Michael Singletary wants it. There is going to be some line up changes, Michael Crabtree obviously the big one. From what were hearing it doesn't sound like he's going to be on 100% of the plays but he will be in the game on a select number of plays he's going to make his debut.
Crabtree will get a chance to go out there hopefully he'll make an impact but he'll only have a few weeks under his belt at that point and there is some much you can learn in that short of time especially as a rookie.
All that time that Crabtree was sitting out he didn't have a playbook, he didn't have anything to study and he could only watch the game and go from there. So now he has a chance to enjoy reading of the playbook a little bit and he'll get in there and hopefully make some plays but again in the short time he's been with the team there is only so much he can do and you can expect him to learn and so much of an impact he can make.
Crabtree might be up on most of the talent the 49ers might have at receiver so there's a chance he could come in for a couple of plays when the Niners play in Houston on Sunday October 25th and make a big play and help the 49ers out.
The other big change is probably going to come at the right guard position where Chilo Rachal seems to be out at the starting right guard position and he's been a problem from the beginning of the season and everybody kind of hoped that he would take a step up and prove this year that he could do the job and while his run blocking has been okay his pass blocking has been terrible.
He's been kind of a revolving door letting people get past him to the quarterback and you just can't have that from the guard position. The guard position is right there in the middle of the line and if guys are there to penatrate in the middle of the line there's no way you could get a passing game.
Frankly where he's better at the running game he hasn't been that good at the running game and if you watched the 49ers tired to run it up the gut their getting stuffed a lot. That's not because running back Frank Gore has been injured, it's not because Glen Coffee is back there.
It's because the offensive line in the middle has not been doing it's job so what your going to see, you could see Adam Snyder slide over from the right tackle spot into the right guard position as he's played right guard before. You could see Tony Wragge whose been the back up for a while and definitely knows the 49ers system.
So any of those guys could end up playing the majority of the snaps at right guard and hopefully that'll shore up the line and help the running game and the passing game.
