It is a waste of time to delve into all the statistics in the 49er loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The only important fact is that now this team seen prior to this season as contending for the NFC west is 0 and 5. Five big turnovers allowed a injury riddled Eagle team to leave San Francisco with a win. I don't need a crystal ball to see the Niner future without head coach " Iron Mike " Singletary and quarterback Alex Smith.

It was a longshot for the San Francisco 49er ownership to put the once proud team under the direction of an inexperienced head coach after the disaster that was coach Mike Nolan. Two public relations moves that have backfired. Alex Smith has had his chance and proved he is not up to the task. I believe his play is causing everyone else on offense to press too much and make mistakes. Running back Frank Gore has been a rock for the Niners yet he fumbled twice.

The defense was not a bend not break proposition. Instead the secondary gave up too many long pass plays. The defensive front was victimized by Philadelphia RB LeSean McCoy who has a cracked rib. In fact during the game Eagle players were being injured right and left. Yet Philadelphia managed to do what was necessary.

Actually the 27-23 score is not a true indication of just how bad the 49ers were. The Eagles mostly had to just hang on and watch as the Niners killed their own drives with three fumbles and two interceptions. The final statistics also don't reflect just how bad QB Alex Smith was. His passes were on the wrong side of receivers and once again he panicked and fumbled instead of just throwing the ball away.

The 49ers came out of the chute on fire in the first quarter and went 51 yards on 11 plays on a textbook drive for a touchdown. This is when the game should have stopped because from that point on it was another tough day for the diehard Niner fans who have waited so long without being rewarded !
