The 2010 version of the San Francisco 49ers are talented parts that the coaching staff hasn't put together to equal a win. In the first half the Niner defense kept the potent Atlanta Falcon's offense in check. After an auspicious start scoring two quick touchdowns QB Alex Smith killed two drives with avoidable interceptions. This allowed the Falcons to stay close at the half trailing 14-10.

In the second half Atlanta QB Matt Ryan still was off his game. The Niners couldn't capitalize on Ryan's less than stellar performance for three quarters of a close game. The Falcon's dangerous running tandem of Michael Turner and Jason Snelling wasn't exactly running over the 49ers defense. The killer was the inconsistent play of the Special teams, the inexperience of rookie Safety Taylor Mays and the bonehead play by a very experienced Nate Clements.

Taylor Mays was a hero in the first quarter when he caught a punt that had been blocked by Dominique Zeigler and later a victim to the experienced Falcons receivers' like TE Tony Gonzalez. Punter Andy Lee's mediocore kicks left Atlanta in good field position most of the game. Niner corner Nate Clements likes to live on the edge. The problem is that in his quest for glory for himself the concept of being on a team is lost. Late in the fourth quarter when Clements stepped up to intercept a Matt Ryan pass for what was a sure game winner he was so intent on scoring a touchdown that he forgot to take care of the football. After returning the interception 39 yards Falcons WR Roddy White came from behind and stripped the ball from Clements and Atlanta recovered the fumble.

Despite the master motivator " Iron Mike " Singletary's pleas, not everyone has taken to his team first approach. Exhibit A Nate Clements ! The problems of the 49ers run deep. The ownership has purchased the requisite talent but hasn't spent the money for top line coaches. With the team at 0 and 4 , coach Singletary is almost history. Quarterback Alex Smith keeps making rookie mistakes but he is not a rookie anymore. Boy genius, team President Jed York can tout the new stadium, Singletary can do his bad imitation of Clint Eastwood and this can't turn the team into winners.

Have mercy on the long suffering Niner season ticket holders ! The television commentators all are very diplomatic but know that the San Francisco 49er's are run like an amateur enterprise. Theres always next season with all new cast of reasonably priced coaches !
