After Sunday's disaster at Arrowhead stadium the Scary one accurately stated that the San Francisco 49er's coaching staff should prepare their resumes for other venues. The 31-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs was another comedy of errors in some ways worse than the loss to the underdog Seattle Seahawks.
Today Coach " Iron Mike " Singletary disclosed to the media that offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye had been fired. Quarterback coach Mike Johnson will move over to the offensive coordinator spot. Coach Singletary stated " This is a results oriented business ". The failure is not just with the offensive side as coach Singletary also announced that LB Takeo Spikes and safety Michael Lewis will be replaced as starters and alluded to more changes on the way.
The problems weren't just with Jimmy Raye. His firing is just a stopgap measure. Coach Singletary's head is the next one on the chopping block. Early on I have alluded to the Niners having a brand X offensive coordinator and an inexperienced position coach as a head coach. By now it is obviously that the job is too big for " Iron Mike " Singletary.
Whether it was a cost saving measure or public relations ploy by the 49er management to hire Mike Singletary as the face of the franchise it is now evident that the move was another major blunder for the once proud team. Part of a head coach's job is to address the media.Coach Singletary has already established a dictator to subject relationship with the media, getting television broadcaster Dennis O' Donnell taken off a show for merely doing his job. This same charm school dropout style has alienated players and the coaching staff. It is ridiculous to have a head coach going on a rant about a " rat " in his organization like a character in a prison movie ! It is unbecoming of a head coach in the NFL !
The Niners knew what they were getting with offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye. Coach Singletary ran Mike Martz out of town and he landed on his feet with the Chicago Bears. He is finding success with the less talented Bears while the Niners have put out big money on the offensive side for an 0 and 3 record !
The firing of Jimmy Raye is the good news but the bad news is the 49ers next game is against the talented Atlanta Falcons. No big deal since they just beat the defending Superbowl champs the New Orleans Saints. Right ! Get ready coach Singletary for some questions from the media that will make him mad ! Now ask owner John York how easy it is to run a successful sport's franchise ! This a problem that even the " Young Genius " Jed York will have trouble fixing.
