SANTA CLARA--Shaun Hill the 49ers quarterback has earned his worth in starting for the 49ers but still he has to prove his worth over and over again and at some point this year he's not going to have to prove himself anymore and he'll be accepted as the starting quarterback but because he's Shaun Hill and he doesn't have the pedigree that some of the higher round draft pick quarterbacks there's a little skepticism around Hill.
It's understandable how people feel this way about Hill and let's step back for a second and just remember what your seeing out there. This is a guy whose started 11 games for the 49ers and he won eight of them.
It's not every quarterback in the NFL that can do that. There are plenty of quarterbacks who are top picks who have not been anywhere near close to that success and granted it's only 11 games but eight wins is eight wins its really the bottom line.
Hill isn't going to wow you and isn't going to pull a Tom Brady or a Peyton Manning he's really going to play like Trent Dilfer in his prime back in 2000 when he led the Baltimore Ravens to the Super Bowl.
Dilfer didn't wow anyone despite the fact that Dilfer was a top round pick and Dilfer never developed into a perennial all-pro quarterback he developed into a guy who takes care of the ball. That's what Hill does he takes care of the ball and he will makes the plays every now and then but Hill's job is not to make mistakes and get the Niners in a position to score.
He's not going to be prolific like a Brady but he's a quarterback who can run a game confidently and do it well. Hill can lead his team and that's what you get from Hill and the 49ers are going to have to start accepting the fact that right now for 2009 Hill is the quarterback and he's doing a decent job of it.
Seattle next up: This could be a very interesting game because Seattle went into their opener against the St.Louis Rams and they dominated that game and won it 28-0 and it wasn't even that close.
St.Louis was out of that game and the Seahawks nearly gained 450 yards of offense Hawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck looked like the Hasselbeck who helped Seattle get to the Superbowl a few years back and he had three touchdowns passes thrown to Julius Jones who ran for over 100 yards.
The Hawks look like the real deal, but let's keep this in mind number one Seattle was playing at home where the Seahawks have one of the best home records in the NFL ever since they opened up that new stadium.
The Hawks are very difficult to beat in Seattle. On the road the Hawks are a completely different team and they are no where as good as on the road. Let's remember the Niners are playing them in Candlestick, they're not playing in Seattle but at Candlestick.
This makes a big difference and point number two yes Seattle looked good, yes they won 28-0 but let's not forget they were playing the St.Louis Rams and the Rams are one of the bottom dwellers this year in the NFL.
The Rams are not a good team and they were not a good team last season and they're in a rebuilding process and you put a team like St.Louis on the road on their opening day it's going to be tough for them especially against a team with some quality players like the Seahawks.
Seattle yes they won, yes they look good but they were at home and they were playing against one of the worst teams in the league. This week they come into Candlestick, they have to play the 49ers a team that has played them tough in the last few years even with the Niners being kind of mediocre.
So the Niners know that this is a big game and they've already have come out of their first big game beating Arizona on the road which was a big big win and Arizona like Seattle is very tough in their home stadium. So the 49ers they're taking these games one game at a time and they know these divisional games are incredibly important.
