The Good Guys: The 49ers go for an unbeaten preseason with their final warm up at San Diego. You cant argue with the Niners success, heck anytime the club can put up a win over the past decade is reason enough for celebration, but it wont mean much unless their can duplicate the winning formula in the regular campaign, which startes off the defending NFC champs next Sunday at Arizona. San Francisco will just tryu to get through this dustup injury free., something they’vr had mixed results so far during the exhibition season. Starting QB Shaun Hill will start the game, but will likely turn the reins over to promising rookie Nate Davis early in the proceedings. Davis has looked so good so far that he was named third stringer aheasd of the since cut Damon Huard this week. Other new faces who have opened eyes are rookie running backs Glen Coffee, Kory Sheets and Brit Miller . Besides these youngsters the Niners defense led by LB Patrick Willis and CB Nate Clements have played solid ball. On the special teams side, its tough to find a more consitent pair of kickers outside of P Andy Lee and PK Joe Nedney.

The Bad Guys: New faces on the Chargers include first round pick Larry English, a DE and third rounder Louis Vazquez, a OG. RB Ladainian Tomlinson will not play vs. San Francisco, with back-up Gart Johnson getting most of the reps… Starting QB Phillip Rivers will play the first quarter before giving way to his back-up Billy Vollek… Other familiar faces include CB Antonio Cromartie, and fiormer Cal long snapper David Binn, now in his 16th pro season, all with team ligning bolt.

Coaches Corner:

49ers head honcho Mike Singletary on preseason progress:

“I think the biggest thing going into training camp was, really, the mindset – just making sure we had the right mindset going into the season. And, as far as the other things, we had the quarterback situation we had to look at, looking at our wide outs, looking at the cornerback position. I think the competition continues to go there, and that will play itself out here this week. But, I think overall, our guys really worked their tails off and really challenged themselves in terms of the work load that we had this offseason.
