What to Expect: Believe it or not the start of the 2009 season is just two weeks away. Until then you’ll have to digest two more practice games. The good news is that the third dress rehearsal is usually the most realistic as teams will typically run out their first teams for most of the first half. That should mean plenty of starting QB Shaun Hill and RB Frank Gore. But both players are banged up (Hill with a lower back problem) uand likely will see little playing time. Most starting positions are already locked up but competition still continues on the offensive line where Adam Snyder is trying to hold off East Bay native Marval Smith. An envious San Francisco team travels to the Cowboys luxurious new stadium for the first time where a parking stall costs $80 and high punts bounce off the dangling scoreboard.

When the 49ers have the ball: Hill, the Niners freshly minted starting might play a series of down after a minor injury in camp. Look for Damon Huard and Nate Davis who looked impressive last week vs. Oakland to make most of the signal calls. Alabama rookie RB Glen Coffee was fantastic vs. the Raiders, as was RB Kory Sheets.

When the 49ers are on Defense: The Niners defense will have their hands full with second year RB Marion Barber… QB Tony Romo will practice throwing the ball to WR Pat Crayton.

Coaches Corner:

Head coach Mike Singletary on the play of the lines:

Defensive line, I think, has really stepped up in terms of the execution, having a great idea of what we’re striving to do, what we need to get done. They continue to make strides day-to-day. I think our offensive line, I’m extremely proud of what they have accomplished thus far, and we just have to build on that on both sides of the ball.”
