What to Expect: The third exhibition game is usually a good indicator of how a team will present itself on opening day. Mike Nolan isn’t yet ready to commit publicly to JT O’Sullivan as the Niners starting quarterback, but why else would he start the journeyman for the third straight game? Look for the Niners to run some serious plays in this one, and what better test than the Bears vaunted defense.

When the 49ers have the ball: O’Sullivan (8-for-17, for 154 yards last week) found rookie WR Josh Morgan on a couple of nice plays in the win vs. the Packers, so look for them to continue that repoire. Fellow WR Isaac Bruce has barely seen any action so far, bet on him to get some serious run. TE Vernon Davis has but two catches for three yards, he will see lots of playing time in this one as well.

When the 49ers are on Defense: Takeo Spikes made his Niners debut last week, he will continue to learn the ropes vs. Chicago. Rookie CB Reggie Smith, who has opened eyes in camp will see plenty of action, as will ball hawking DB Dashon Golden and first round pick DE Kentwan Balmer.

Coaches Corner:

Head coach Mike Nolan on what kind of excitement J.T. O’Sullivan brings to the offense:

“I don’t want to be specific to a player because I think that’s unfair at this time. I’ll just say this, any quarterback that moves the ball and moves the team, obviously the players are going to be excited. It’s no different than having a good player next to you if you’re an offensive linemen. You get some adrenaline flow from it because you know it’s going to make you look better. Like I said, in the quarterback position, more than any other, affects more guys, so therefore, they’ll get excited if they feel someone can make them look good.”
