SANTA CLARA--When 49ers head coach Mike Singletary first interviewed newly hired offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye 62, he knew he had himself an offensive coordinator. The experience speaks for itself with Raye being part of the game for 32 years and that Singletary kind of figured out that Raye knew a thing or two about coaching the offense.

Raye had coached with ten different teams in various coaching jobs for over a span of 11 seasons as a offensive coordinator. Raye was at the Raiders under former head coach Norv Turner during the 2004-05 season. Raye was recently coaching the New York Jets as the running backs coach.

Raye is someone that Singletary really is excited to have on board and likes what he can bring to the offensive game which is described as the pro-style offense and Singletary was looking for someone who can provide a balance on the pass and running game.

Raye also coached former NFL great back Eric Dickerson when they were with the Los Angeles Rams in 1984. Raye coached Dickerson to some 2105 yards of running that season.

Raye is someone that Singletary most importantly believes he can work with and can get some progress done to make the 49ers one of the most competitive teams on offense in the NFL. With what Singletary saw at quarterback with Shaun Hill last season he believes that he can deliver Hill on offense and even with Alex Smith being considered to come back at a lower cut rate salary will be huge that is if Smith can show Singletary he can deliver and show Raye and the 49ers something different that he hasn't seen before.

Raye wants to put the 49ers in the playoffs and the work will start in June and July in preparation for camp and with the Arizona Cardinals making noise in getting to the Super Bowl the 49ers would like to stop the Cardinals from getting any wide eyed ideas of becoming a dynasty or something of that frame of mind. Looks like Raye will be looking closely at this Super Bowl and see how he can counter the Cardinals for 2009.
